Local activists are accusing commercial operators on Rhodes of occupying public beaches illegally, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the Umbrella Network, a local advocacy group.
In a public complaint, the group stated that conditions on the beaches of Lindos and Kolymbia diverge significantly from government concessions logged on MyCoast, a state-managed mobile app used to track legal beach rentals and public space access.
The group highlighted instances of unpermitted beach bars, missing lease agreements and sunbed installations extending into designated coastal buffer zones.
Greek Law 5092/2024 limits beach equipment to a maximum of 60% of any leased plot and mandates an unobstructed four-meter buffer along the shoreline.
Activists warned that several high-traffic tourist sites on the island are currently disregarding these national statutory limits.
