Two games into the 2026/27 Premier League season, Bruno Fernandes already owns the Golden Boot race. The Manchester United captain has scored three goals and added an assist across his opening 180 minutes of league football.
He is, for now, the undisputed leader of a crowded scoring chart. At least seven other players are tied at two goals each, but Fernandes has the race to himself at the top.
The hat-trick that set the tone
The headline performance came on August 30, 2026, when Fernandes dismantled Ipswich Town almost single-handedly in a 5-2 home win at Old Trafford. His three goals in that match gave United a commanding statement victory and gave him his third career hat-trick for the club.
A goals-per-90 rate of 1.5 through two matches is, naturally, unsustainable. But it does illustrate something real: Fernandes is arriving into this season with the confidence of a man who just broke one of the Premier League’s most coveted records.
