Morpho, the decentralized lending protocol, crossed $14 billion in total deposits for the first time, marking a new high watermark for a platform that barely existed a few years ago. The milestone, first reached in late August 2026, climbed to approximately $14.15 billion by early September.
To put that in perspective: Morpho founder Paul Frambot noted on August 22 that $14B represents about 1.4% of the path to the first $1 trillion.
What’s driving the growth
Three catalysts are fueling the deposit surge. The first is Morpho Midnight, a non-custodial fixed-rate lending protocol that launched on July 21, 2026. Unlike traditional DeFi lending where rates float with supply and demand, Midnight lets users set personalized loan terms through competitive offers.
The second driver is Base. Deposits on Coinbase’s Layer 2 network now exceed $5 billion on Morpho alone. That’s more than a third of the protocol’s total deposits sitting on a single chain.
