The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the EOS-05, India’s first Earth observation satellite (EOS), into Geosynchronous Orbit.The satellite will be launched on Friday (September 4, 2025) at 2.55 AM from the Second Launch Pad (SLP) at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.First imaging satellite in high-altitude GEO orbitWhile the space agency has launched imaging satellites before, this will be the first such satellite in the high-altitude GEO orbit.EOS-5, if injected successfully into the GEO orbit, will act as India’s ‘eye in the sky’ that will help monitor critical assets like remote borders and conflict zones 24/7. Unlike other imaging satellites that are stationed at lower altitudes, EOS-5 will match the Earth’s rotation and hence provide continuous, real-time viewing of the exact same region, rather than multiple snapshots captured by a moving satellite.GSLV to carry out the missionThe launch will be carried out by the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle(GSLV).
