I've always been a fan of tech that manages to blend slimness and a lightweight design into a form factor that's still equally useful (partly why I daily drive an iPhone Air). And Acer's new Swift Blade 14 at IFA 2026 takes that idea almost to the extreme.The Swift Blade 14 isn't just another MacBook Neo competitor or one of the new Nvidia RTX Spark-powered laptops we've seen here in Berlin. The whole point of this laptop is much simpler: Acer has managed to make a proper 14-inch laptop that weighs just under 800 grams (1.7lbs).The Swift Blade 14 looks like pretty much any other thin-and-light laptop at first. It has a slim profile and a catchy design, available in two great-looking colors, namely Marshmallow White and Marshmallow Blue. But then you actually pick it up, and that's when the laptop catches you by surprise. At just 799 grams, it feels almost weightless in the hand.
(Image credit: Sanuj Bhatia / Tom's Guide)For reference, that's less than the combined weight of a 13-inch iPad Pro with Apple's Magic Keyboard attached, which really puts into perspective just how light this thing is.Of course, getting the weight this low means Acer has had to make some compromises. The chassis initially feels almost plastic-like in the hand, although Acer is actually using a combination of ultra-light carbon fiber and magnesium-aluminum alloy to keep the weight down.The keyboard and trackpad are where I noticed the compromises more. The trackpad itself is plenty large, but neither it nor the keyboard has the tactile feel you'd expect from a more premium laptop.The keyboard deck also flexes noticeably if you press down on it harder than usual.
