The United States and Iran have entered another sharp escalation in their conflict, with Tehran launching retaliatory strikes against US-linked military positions across the Middle East after Iranian authorities reported that fresh American attacks killed 11 people, including four at a wedding in southern Iran.
Iranian state media said the overnight US strikes hit several locations. The Iranian Red Crescent reported that four people, including a four-year-old boy, were killed and more than 50 wounded when shrapnel struck a home where a wedding was taking place in Sirik in Hormozgan province.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attack turned a wedding celebration into a tragedy. “The wedding celebration of a young and respectable Sunni couple” was turned into mourning after a residential house was destroyed, the Guards said, claiming that nearly 70 people were affected and four, including a child, were killed. The US has not commented on the reported wedding attack.
Iran later reported additional casualties from the US strikes. State media said seven people were killed and eight injured in missile attacks on three locations in Khuzestan province. The IRGC separately said four of its aerospace force personnel were killed in an American attack in Kermanshah province, while three Basij members were reportedly killed on Lavan Island in the Gulf.
