A Southern African python allegedly advertised for R5,000 on social media has been recovered in Delareyville, with two suspects arrested during an intelligence-led police operation.
A live Southern African python allegedly advertised for R5,000 on social media has been recovered and two suspects arrested in North West.
The intelligence-led operation targeted the illegal online trade in wildlife and involved the Sannieshof Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit (STESU), the North West Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT), and the Wildlife Crime Information Network (WCIN).
Police said the operation followed information about a person who allegedly advertised a live Southern African python for sale on a private social media platform.
“Following the verification and sharing of the information, the alleged seller was traced to Delareyville,” police said.
