Jeff Dean/Getty ImagesSept. 2, 2026 Updated The New England Revolution are in advanced talks over a deal to acquire U.S. youth international center back Josh Wynder on loan from Benfica, sources briefed on the situation tell The Athletic.The Revs are working to get the deal over the line before Wednesday night’s MLS transfer deadline, there are a few details still to iron out, sources say.There won’t be a purchase option in the deal, but if all goes well and the player wants to stay, Benfica and New England can negotiate a permanent deal well then loan is done.
Wynder, 21, had been one of the brightest center back talents in his age groups with the U.S. youth national teams but has missed time with injury in recent times. He has made 37 appearances for Benfica’s B team and played one game with the senior team after his move from Louisville City in the USL Championship in 2023.A number of MLS teams have looked into signing Wynder on loan over the last year but New England are close to getting a deal done.Revs head coach Marko Mitrovic previously coached Wynder with the U.S. youth national team.
