Airport workers in Argentina postponed the strike they had planned for Thursday and Friday to demand higher salaries amid a dispute with the government.
A new stoppage schedule is expected to be announced for next September 7 and 8, and carried out on the same set times, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m
The strike was set to affect 27 of Argentina’s 40 commercial airports, including Ministro Pistarini Airport in Ezeiza, Buenos Aires, as well as Jorge Newbery Airport in Buenos Aires City, the country’s capital.
The strike had been called by the State Workers Association (ATE, by its Spanish initials), which represents state workers from the National Civil Aviation Administration, including ground traffic controllers, firefighters, healthcare workers, inspectors and administrative personnel who work at the airports.
On Wednesday, the government ordered ATE to guarantee that at least 75% of the workers continue providing their services as usual, since the aviation sector is considered essential by a law endorsed by the current government. This means that 75% of the services must be guaranteed at all times, even during strikes.
