It was one of the most striking scenes from deadline day across Europe: the young Real Betis forward Pablo Garcia and his parents leaving the club’s facilities in tears ahead of his move to fellow Spanish side Racing Santander.Garcia was born in Seville, where Betis are based, and joined their academy aged six, impressing as he climbed up the youth ranks and starring for Spain’s Under-19 team (including scoring four goals in a European Championship match against Germany).But the 20-year-old had not truly established himself for Betis’ senior side. Last season, he made 25 appearances, mostly as a substitute, and his only two goals came in a 7-1 Copa del Rey game against semi-professional side Atletico Palma del Rio.All involved are aware that former Manchester United winger Antony is coach Manuel Pellegrini’s first-choice option on the right of attack, meaning the youngster’s minutes were set to be limited again this season.Betis club sources, who asked to speak anonymously to protect their positions, told The Athletic it had been Garcia’s own decision to leave this summer, as he wanted to start more games at senior level.
