Greece’s foreign minister on Wednesday called for European Union solidarity in responding to violations of international law, saying Athens would brief its EU counterparts on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean.
Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis made the remarks as he arrived for an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Ireland, where discussions were expected to focus on global security, the Middle East and growing challenges to the international order.
“The European Union must stand in solidarity in the face of every violation of international law,” Gerapetritis said.
He said the meeting would address issues affecting the global security architecture, including conflicts in the Middle East and cases where “revisionism is particularly acute.”
“Greece always stands on the side of those defending themselves, on the side of international law, and in favor of freedom of navigation and human dignity,” he said.
