OpenAI’s ChatGPT has been designated as a Very Large Online Search Engine under the EU’s Digital Services Act, the European Commission said, meaning it will need to comply with more stringent rules in the bloc going forward.
The Commission said Reddit and Roblox have also been designated as Very Large Online Platforms under the law, bringing in similar obligations.

Such designations apply to platforms with more than 45 million monthly users in the EU, and mean stricter standards for the removal of illegal content, the protection of privacy and security for minors, and greater transparency around how their recommendation algorithms operate, among others.
