Commission also designates Roblox and Reddit as Digital Services Act VLOPs
AI chatbot ChatGPT, gaming platform Roblox and messaging forum Reddit will face the bloc’s strictest online governance rules, the Commission said on Monday.
The trio have been designated as so-called very large online platforms (VLOPs) under the Digital Services Act (DSA) – joining a long list of platforms, such as Meta’s Instagram and ByteDance’s TikTok – already in scope of the additional transparency, accountability and risk management rules.
Their designation means the Commission gains investigative powers in respect of ChatGPT-parent OpenAI, Roblox Corporation and Reddit Inc so that it can probe the workings of their respective platforms for compliance with strict platform rules.
The three platforms have until the end of November 2026 to ensure they are compliant with the law’s strictest rules, which include requirements to assess and mitigate risks to vulnerable users like children and threats to democratic processes, among others.
