The Argentina midfielder signed a five-year deal, reuniting with City manager Enzo Maresca after winning the Club World Cup together at Stamford Bridge. The transfer takes Manchester City's total summer spending to around £435m, with over £325m spent on new midfielders. City also completed the £60m deadline day signing of Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye, following earlier midfield deals for Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi. Chelsea countenanced Fernandez's departure to bring their summer sales to approximately £400m, despite a proposed £47m deal for Monaco's Lamine Camara collapsing.
