More than 20 sexual assaults have been reported in Ceuta over the past month, with authorities investigating a number of alleged perpetrators.
The figures released by Spanish government officials and prosecutors differ. Equality Minister Ana Redondo told Congress that 21 sexual assaults had been committed in Ceuta since the beginning of the migration crisis and that investigations were underway into five alleged perpetrators, according to BNR.
Earlier, however, prosecutors reported 23 cases, including five alleged rapes. Nine of the victims were minors between 14 and 17 years old, according to the public prosecution service.
Citing sources within the prosecutor's office, the Spanish news agency EFE reported that investigators have identified eight alleged perpetrators. Four are Moroccan nationals, three are Spanish and one is Belgian.
Authorities have not yet identified the remaining alleged attackers, while investigations into the reported sexual assaults continue.
