Andhra Pradesh Special Chief Secretary (Energy) K. Vijayanand said in a review meeting on Tuesday that the Andhra Pradesh Power Coordination Committee (APPCC) and DISCOMs have prepared a comprehensive supply plan for September and October to grapple with the possible impact of El Niño weather conditions and ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers.The State government has accelerated short-term power procurement measures to maintain grid stability and ensure reliable power supply to consumers at economical costs, he said, while noting that thermal power generation was temporarily affected due to annual maintenance work at power stations and unforeseen technical issues.Against the base thermal power availability of 8,902 MW, an average of only 5,904 MW was available in August due to capital overhaul and other repair work at Dr. Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station, Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant, Hinduja power plant in Visakhapatnam, and Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station.Despite these constraints, the State successfully met a grid demand of 269 Million Units (MU) per day in August on average, against 223 MU last year, registering a 20% growth. The max demand during the month was 286 MU, which was just short of the maximum demand of 288.75 MU recorded in summer.Mr. Vijayanand said the peak demand was expected to be around 13,500 MW in September and 12,000 MW in October. The minimum demand was likely to be around 9,600 MW in September and 9,300 MW in October.Further, Mr. Vijayanand said the APPCC and DISCOMs have invited DEEP (Discovery of Efficient Electricity Price) tenders on August 20 to meet the power requirement for the next one year.He mentioned that Andhra Pradesh secured the fourth position at the national level, with 4.93 lakh solar rooftop connections installed as of August 30. Of these, more than 3.01 lakh units have been installed under the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) Utility-Led Aggregation model.AP-Genco MD S. Nagalakshmi, AP-Transco Joint MD G.
