The farmers and milk producers in Salem on Tuesday welcomed the Aavin milk procurement price hike by the State Government.Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday that the Aavin milk procurement price will be increased to ₹44 per litre from ₹38.Welcoming this announcement and thanking the Chief Minister and Dairy Development Minister, the Tamil Nadu Milk Producers’ Welfare Association (TNMPWA) general secretary M.G. Rajendran urged the government to hike the procurement price of buffalo milk to ₹60 per litre for the standard of 7.0% fat + 8.8% solid non-fat (SNF) milk.While issuing the order, the government should also fix the price for cow's milk with a standard of 4.0% fat + 8.0% SNF. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has fixed the quality of cow's milk in Tamil Nadu as 3.5% fat + 8.5% SNF = 12% total solids. The average total solids of cow's milk in the State are 4.0% fat + 8.0% SNF = 12.0% total solids. This will benefit those supplying milk to Aavin."The government should issue an order to drop the MRF formula and implement the ISI formula to determine the quality of fat and SNF in milk. A deduction of ₹1.25 per litre is made from the purchase price of milk for the administrative expenses of the milk societies. In view of the increase in administrative expenses, we request that the deduction to be increased to ₹2 per litre," Mr. Rajendran added.Likewise, the Uzhavar Perunthalaivar Narayanasamy Naidu's Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam president R.
