The Jacob Zuma Foundation is not backing down from defeat following Monday's dismissal of their application for Justice Sisi Khampepe to recuse herself from chairing the TRC Cases Inquiry, probing allegations of political interference with Truth and Reconciliation cases.
The Jacob Zuma Foundation has announced its intention to challenge the recent ruling by the Constitutional Court that dismissed the applications of former presidents Zuma and Thabo Mbeki for Justice Sisi Khampepe to recuse herself from the commission investigating political suppression related to Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) cases.
This comes just as the Khampepe Commission of Inquiry marked a significant milestone as it welcomed a pivotal Constitutional Court ruling dismissing Zuma and Mbeki’s attempt to recuse the commission’s chairperson from overseeing investigations into political suppression concerning Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) cases.
On Monday, spokesperson for the foundation, Mzwanele Manyi, stated that while its patron's application for Khampepe's recusal had not prevailed, the matter has not ended as other legal avenues are still available to them.
"The conclusion of the recusal litigation does not end the broader concerns already placed before the relevant authorities. On the advice of its legal representatives, the foundation will now pursue two further processes, a criminal complaint to the SAPS concerning the conduct of the commission's chairperson toward the evidence leader, including the alleged sharing of notes and alleged coaching on how to respond to the challenge to his role," Manyi stated.
