Lionel Richie remains in hospital following treatment in the intensive care unit following a mid-performance health concern and it's not the only time he's suffered on stage13:34, 01 Sep 2026Fans' concerns are growing for singer Lionel Richie after the legendary musician was rushed to intensive care following a worrying episode during a live show.He was performing in St. Louis, Missouri, over the weekend when it became clear that something was not right with the 77-year-old. A mid-performance issue led to the star being whisked to the hospital, and those who adore the Hello hitmaker are waiting for an update on his condition. The singer's latest health scare comes just two months after he alarmed fans when he was compelled to cut short a concert in Minnesota after falling on stage. He had been forced to pause and sit down during a performance at the Grand Casino Arena, sparking worry behind the scenes and also in the crowd. His band reportedly also departed the stage minutes afterwards, but following 40 minutes, he abandoned the performance, and a band member returned to inform the audience that he couldn't continue due to illness.According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, saxophonist Dino Soldo told the crowd: "Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well. He won't be able to continue. Additional information will be available."TMZ reported at the time that the star stopped his concert and received treatment from paramedics backstage before being taken to the hospital.Lionel's career almost never took off due to health problems. The singer suffered prolonged throat problems and had surgery four times in four years before being told by conventional doctors that he could lose his singing career. He then turned to a holistic doctor who said the problem was simply acid reflux caused by the foods Richie was eating before going to bed.As of Monday night, the star remains in the hospital following treatment in the intensive care unit. Reports suggest the Commodores frontman will be released at some point today.Witnesses at the concert at the weekend claim the star had appeared to be struggling during the latter stages of the show. At one point, it's claimed he asked his team to bring him a chair while performing his final song, All Night Long.It came after a source revealed those close to the star had been concerned by his health in recent months. A source told the Daily Mail: "Family, friends, and even his bandmates are definitely concerned about Lionel's health, but nobody is about to tell him to slow down. They all want him better and to do what he loves to do."Right now, Lionel is actually more upset that fans didn't get the full show they paid for than he is about himself and his health. That's where his head is. He hates disappointing people and feels terrible that the concert couldn't continue as planned."Article continues belowLike this story?
