Lionel Richie has returned to stage once more, a week on from falling ill mid-performance and being taken to hospital and sparking concern from fans18:11, 01 Jul 2026Lionel Richie caused concern from fans after he was rushed to hospital halfway through his concert last week, but on Tuesday night returned to stage in Pittsburgh.‌The 77-year-old iconic singer fell dizzy while performing on stage at the Grand Casino in Minnesota. Lionel later postponed his concert tour - with a statement revealing the singer was left 'heartbroken' by the news.‌However, in his triumphant return to stage last night, Lionel told the crowd at the PPG Paints Arena: "I had you worried there for a minute, huh?‌He also suggested he ignored medical advice from his friends when it came to going back on stage: "You have no idea what I have been through in the last 24 hours, listening to my friends tell me their advice on what I should be doing."It was previously reported that Lionel's friends were "concerned" for his health. A source told the Daily Mail: "Family, friends, and even his bandmates are definitely concerned about Lionel's health, but nobody is about to tell him to slow down. They all want him better and to do what he loves to do.‌"Right now, Lionel is actually more upset that fans didn't get the full show they paid for than he is about himself and his health. That's where his head is. He hates disappointing people and feels terrible that the concert couldn't continue as planned."The star was taken by ambulance to hospital after his performance last week as a precautionary measure, with Saxophonist Dino Soldo, telling the audience at the time: "Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well. He won’t be able to continue."A statement was later released saying that he needed to postpone some tour dates before returning to stage.‌"Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows on Friday, June 26 in Chicago, IL and Saturday, June 27 in Columbus, OH," the statement began."He and Earth, Wind & Fire will return to the stage on Tuesday, June 30 in Pittsburgh, PA. Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans."We apologize for any inconvenience this causes fans who have tickets for these two shows. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon."‌His ex-wife, Brenda Harvey, whom the singer was married to for 18 years before divorcing in 1993, also updated fans on Lionel's health. She shared on X: "Thanking everyone for their concern! Lionel is OK and will be back on the stage."His performance in Minnesota was the first night of Lionel's lengthy tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, that stops in the UK on August 20 for a performance at Sandringham House. At present, the tour is set to take place across 26 cities throughout the summer. For more of the latest showbiz news and gossip, follow Mirror Celebs on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .Article continues below
