A man who caught his wife cheating with the camera on a robot vacuum cleaner has been jailed for an 'invasion of privacy'.The husband, who used the video in divorce proceedings, was sentenced to five months in prison after filming his wife without her consent.The husband initially became suspicious of his wife – who was married in 2021 – when he found a toothbrush that was neither his nor his partner's at their holiday home.The Taiwan-based man then reviewed CCTV footage from outside the property, which revealed a man repeatedly dropping his wife home. Several months later in December 2023, he activated the remote vacuum cleaner in the holiday home with an app from his parents' home, where the couple lived. He reportedly tried to turn on the device's audio function but instead activated the live camera, which caught the wife with her lover, according to the South China Morning Post.The husband, whose name and age have not been made public, then recorded the pair undressing and walking around the holiday home naked. A man who caught his wife cheating with the camera on a robot vacuum cleaner has been jailed for an 'invasion of privacy' (stock image of a robot Hoover)Once he discovered the affair, he sought just over £46,600 (NT$2million) in damages from his wife in divorce proceedings, supplying the video as evidence.A civil court said the wife's affair and conduct had 'gone beyond the bounds of friendship' and was ordered to pay her ex-partner just over £11,600 (NT$500,000).However, the adulterer took her husband to criminal court over the infringing of her privacy.Although the husband argued the evidence had already been accepted in a civil court, the criminal court dismissed his defence and said that marital duties did not overrule an individual's right to privacy.The sound and lights from the camera and microphone on the Hoover being turned on were deemed 'too weak' to have alerted the wife.Alongside his five months behind bars, the husband must also pay her nearly £3,500 (NT$150,000).
