The chipmaker is aiming for a landscape in which future AI development is in line with its own hardware and standards.
Nvidia has announced plans to invest $3.5bn into MediaTek, a Taiwanese semiconductor company. The investment is the latest update in an established partnership between the two organisations, which aims to develop the next generation of AI computing platforms.
MediaTek will adopt Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion platform and the newly announced NVHBM tech. This is also part of Nvidia’s wider goal to ensure that, as the AI landscape develops, the future of the sector is built heavily around its own hardware platform and standards.
Commenting on the announcement, Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s founder and CEO, said, “AI is transforming every computing platform, from the world’s largest AI factories to the PC and the car. MediaTek is one of the world’s great semiconductor companies, with exceptional expertise in system-on-chip design, connectivity, leading performance and power efficiency.
“Together, we’re building platforms that bring Nvidia accelerated computing to new markets and give customers the freedom to create differentiated AI systems at enormous scale.”
