Trainers attended to the 46-year-old Gonzalez as he sat on the field near home plate, and he was helped down the third-base line before exiting. The game resumed after a 14-minute delay. The Reds later announced that Gonzalez was dealing with heat exhaustion.First base umpire D.J. Reyburn took over behind the plate, and the umpiring crew eschewed a second-base umpire, with Ron Kulpa taking over at first and Tom Hanahan at third.The scene played out on a warm August evening at Great American Ball Park. The temperature was 90 degrees with 61 percent humidity at the start of Monday’s game. Around 8 p.m. ET, it was still 85 degrees with a heat index warning in effect for the area.
