The MSCI index rebalancing led on Monday to a huge rise in turnover at Athinon Avenue, while the benchmark slipped from Friday’s heights on a day with mixed colors for the bourse board. The resumption of military action between the US and Iran sent oil rates rising again and rendered traders more nervous. This came up against the local market’s momentum and led to a mix of actions in a hectic day at the bourse.
The Euronext Athens (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,677.26 points, shedding 0.10% from Friday’s 2,679.97 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index also contracted 0.10% to end at 6,847.75 points, though mid-caps expanded 0.35%.
The banks index advanced just 0.01%, as CrediaBank jumped 3.23%, Optima earned 1.25%, Piraeus obtained 0.78%, National grew 0.15% and Alpha edged up 0.04%, while Eurobank dropped 1.38% and Bank of Cyprus gave up 0.19%.
In total, 47 stocks boasted gains, 60 posted losses and 13 remained unchanged.
Turnover amounted to €801.3 million, up from last Friday’s €237.9 million.
