The Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF, for its Spanish initials) has identified a victim of the La Perla dictatorship death camp in Córdoba: Alejandro Ernesto Jesús Jerez Bodereau.
He is the 30th victim of the dictatorship to be identified through the excavation and analysis process the team has been carrying out in the Loma del Torito area, inside the La Calera military compound, since last year.
The latest finding was announced on Friday, following the first 12 identifications in March and another 17 in May. Five individuals whose remains were found buried on the grounds of the former La Perla clandestine detention center remain unidentified.
The identification at the EAAF’s Forensic Genetics Laboratory “was made possible by comparing skeletal remains found in La Perla with reference samples from family members” obtained by the EAAF and genetic profiles provided by the National Bank of Genetic Data, a public institution dedicated, among other tasks, to finding children stolen during the dictatorship and identifying victims of human rights violations.
The EAAF worked in collaboration with local authorities and teams from the universities of Río Cuarto and Córdoba as part of a judicial investigation into La Perla.
