Appealing to the District Collector Durga Moorthy to intervene into the issues pertaining to issuance of driving licence to the learners through the Regional Transport Office (RTO) Dindigul, the public said that they have been waiting for the last three months for no fault of them here on Monday.A large number of public and office-bearers from the Dindigul District Driving School Owners Association led by its president C. Sureshkumaran said that the automated testing tracks at the Dindigul RTO had not been functional and posed hardships to the candidates. A majority of them also faced dangerous situation while undergoing the testing tracks.“Even qualified drivers may find it difficult and hence the testing tracks need to be recalibrated in such a way that it is functional and user friendly as in other RTOs,” he added.Some of the applicants said that they were waiting for almost three months due to the technical snag in the automated testing track. As a result, many of them have been deprived of job opportunities and overseas employment.An official at the RTO Dindigul said that they had no control over the tracking system or in awarding pass/fail. The entire system is being handled by a private agency, outsourced by the Tamil Nadu government. Despite representations made to the higher officials in the Transport Department, they have not addressed the issue yet, he said requesting anonymity.However, the Collector is understood to have given an assurance to the petitioners that she would speak to the officials in the Transport Department soon and examine the modalities to sort out the issue amicably.
