Tottenham Hotspur have made an enquiry to Chelsea over a potential loan move for Mykhailo Mudryk.Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi worked with the winger during his breakthrough into Shakhtar Donetsk’s first-team.The north London club have been in the market for a left-sided attacking reinforcement, and have held interest in Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo and Iliman Ndiaye of Everton.Spurs have already completed deals to sign Savio and Omar Marmoush from Manchester City as part of a summer spend exceeding £300million.Mudryk scored two goals and provided nine assists under De Zerbi during the two’s time together at Ukrainian club Shakhtar during the 2021-22 season.The Athletic reported on August 21 that Chelsea rejected a proposal from Leeds United to sign Mudryk on loan. Talks continued after the approach was rebuffed, and Chelsea are keen to ensure he plays regularly wherever he ends up before the transfer window closes.
The west London club have been considering several options for Mudryk, who is liked by clubs in England and in continental Europe, with Leeds and French sister club Strasbourg among them.On July 31, a resolution between the Football Association (FA) and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was reached over an anti-doping violation, allowing Mudryk — who has not played competitively for Chelsea since November 2024 — to return to club training and selection.The 25-year-old had to train away from all Chelsea facilities on his own during that 20-month period, having returned an adverse finding in a urine sample. He was provisionally suspended and then handed a four-year ban by the FA in April this year, a verdict he lodged an appeal against to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso said Mudryk’s return was “great news” for the club. “He was very good in one-v-one situations and could create a lot of situations on his own,” Alonso said of the Ukraine international. “He’s a special player.”He went on to feature in three of Chelsea’s pre-season friendlies as a substitute and assisted the equaliser in a 3-3 draw with Johor Darul Ta-zim, but was not included in any of the three matchday squads for Chelsea’s games against Fulham, Luton Town and Brighton & Hove Albion.Mudryk moved to Stamford Bridge in January 2023 in a €100million (£85.5m; $116.7m) transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk. He has scored 10 goals in 73 appearances for the west London club.
