Two percent sounds like a rounding error. In the context of U.S. equities, it represents $2 trillion.

That is the math Securitize laid out during its August 13 earnings call, framing native tokenization of public equities as one of the largest untapped opportunities in financial infrastructure. The company, which trades on the NYSE under the ticker SECZ, argued that a modest 2% migration of U.S. stocks and ETFs onto blockchain rails could generate a market roughly equal in size to all of crypto combined.

The gap between what exists and what is possible

Today, tokenized equities account for roughly $2 billion globally. That figure sounds large until you set it next to the $100 trillion-plus value of U.S. equities and ETFs.

Securitize also pointed out that most of the $2 billion currently in existence consists of synthetic instruments or offshore assets, meaning shareholders often lack full legal ownership rights.
