CME Group and CF Benchmarks have launched two new multi-asset digital asset indices, adding a layer of market-wide visibility that the crypto industry’s institutional infrastructure has been missing. The CME CF Crypto Market Index and the CME CF Emerging Crypto Index went live on August 31, 2026, shortly after 10 a.m. London time.
What the two indices actually track
The CME CF Crypto Market Index functions as a broad-market benchmark, with Bitcoin and Ether as its core constituents, weighted by free-float market capitalization.
The CME CF Emerging Crypto Index explicitly excludes BTC and ETH, directing attention toward the next tier of digital assets. Both indices pull from the CF Investible Universe, a standardized eligibility framework that CF Benchmarks already uses across its single-asset products.
Constituent data feeds in from regulated exchange sources, and both indices update approximately every second, running continuously every day of the year. Daily settlement rates are published at three regional intervals covering London, New York, and the Asia-Pacific region.
