Three members of a family, a woman and her two granddaughters were killed after being run over by an express train near the railway track between Doddaballapur and Muttur on Monday (August 31) morning.The deceased have been identified as Irfana, 46, and her granddaughters Rukhiya, 13, and Raziya, 8, from Hindupur, Andhra Pradesh.According to preliminary information, the girls had come to their grandmother’s house from Hindupur for the holidays. After the vacation, they were returning home when the tragedy occurred.The family was reportedly walking towards Doddaballapur railway station from Muttur when they entered the railway track. Two railway tracks meet at a curve at the spot, and the three allegedly failed to notice the approaching express train. The train, travelling at high speed, ran over them, killing all three on the spot.According to the police, Irfana was late and in a hurry to reach the station to board the train, which was fast-approaching towards the station. She was hurriedly crossing the track while dragging the girls. Passers-by who noticed this raised an alarm to stop her but she did not listen to them, eyewitnesses told the police. The impact was so severe that the bodies were badly mutilated.The Railway police visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
