Sai Green Projects will procure the 650 nine-metre electric buses from Switch Mobility under a tender conducted by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL). The company will operate the new electric buses in Mumbai and Pune, Maharashtra, on behalf of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) and Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), respectively.
Of the 14,028 electric buses eligible for support under the PM E-Drive scheme, CESL concluded the Phase I tender, covering 10,900 units, in December 2025. The 650 nine-metre electric buses that Switch Mobility will supply to Sai Green Projects are part of the Phase II tender, for 2,900 additional units, which concluded this May. According to the bidding documents and award details we examined, 200 of these nine-metre electric buses will be low-floor non-AC units for Pune, while the remaining 450 will be low-floor AC units for Mumbai.
CESL sought 200 nine-metre low-floor non-AC electric buses for Pune and stated that it would award the entire lot to the party bidding the lowest per-kilometre cost (excl. GST). Sai Green Projects won the contract with the lowest bid of 55.55 rupees (0.50 euros) per kilometre.
As for the nine-metre low-floor AC electric buses for Mumbai, CESL sought 1,500 units and specified a 70:30 allocation between the lowest and second-lowest per-kilometre cost (excl. GST) bidders. GreenCell Mobility submitted the lowest bid, at 60.25 rupees (0.54 euros) per kilometre, qualifying for 1,050 of the 1,500 units. Sai Green Projects’ bid, at 60.99 rupees (0.55 euros) per kilometre, was the second lowest, and the company secured the order for the remaining 450 units after agreeing to match the rate accepted from the lowest bidder as per CESL’s bidding conditions.
