The distinction matters because services designated as Very Large Online Platforms, known as VLOPs, face enhanced obligations within four months. But as of August 31, 2026, the European Commission had not publicly confirmed that all three services had received those designations.
The strongest evidence currently concerns ChatGPT and Roblox. Bloomberg Law's report on the expected ChatGPT and Roblox designations said in July 2026 that formal decisions could arrive in August. Roblox's own EU transparency disclosures also reported roughly 46.6 million monthly recipients in the EU, above the 45 million threshold used to define VLOP status. Reddit has been discussed as a potential candidate, but its position depends on the final assessment of its reported figures and any subsequent Commission decision.
For businesses that use these services for customer interaction, community research, advertising, content discovery or AI-assisted work, the practical message is straightforward: monitor confirmed regulatory developments rather than treating a reported group designation as settled fact. A VLOP decision can lead platforms to change transparency practices, risk controls and product processes, but the available evidence does not establish which changes, if any, individual business users will see.
