The head of the Foreign Nationals and Immigrants Center at the Ministry of Interior announced a reduction in Iran’s foreign national population from 6.1 million to fewer than five million, stating that over the past year, nearly 1.8 million “undocumented nationals” have exited the country through either deportation or self-deportation.
According to ISNA, Nader Yarahmadi, while detailing the latest situation regarding foreign nationals and the migrant organization initiative, stated that the Interior Ministry’s official policy focuses on legalizing the presence of foreign nationals to meet the country’s labor market needs.
Regarding the establishment of the “National Migration Organization,” Yarahmadi noted that the draft bill and proposal were finalized through an agreement between Parliament and the administration. Following legal and administrative procedures, it will be submitted to the Guardian Council for final approval. According to him, the organization aims to centralize decision-making on immigration governance based on expert capacity.
Referring to a presidential survey conducted last year, he claimed that government measures to regulate foreign nationals garnered the highest level of public satisfaction among all executive actions.
