The Hong Kong Observatory will issue the No 1 typhoon signal at 6.10pm as remnants of tropical storm Saudel, moving across the southeastern coast of Hainan Island, are expected to intensify into a tropical depression shortly.Saudel was expected to cross the northern South China Sea on Tuesday and Wednesday, nearing eastern Guangdong province, bringing stronger winds to Hong Kong from Tuesday afternoon as it combined with the northeast monsoon, the Observatory said.“The Observatory will closely monitor its movement and the changes in local wind strength, and assess the need for issuing higher tropical cyclone warning signals by then,” it said.Heavier showers are expected on Tuesday, and residents are urged to check the latest updates from the Observatory before heading out.
