Updated August 31, 2026 — 5:10pm,first published 2:53pmPolice are working to find a woman whose newborn son was found dead in a rubbish bin in Sydney’s south-west.A woman found the boy, believed to be up to 36 hours old, around 11:20am while putting rubbish in a bin in the front yard of an Auburn unit complex.Fire and Rescue NSW responders at the scene in Auburn.Nine NewsPolice said the boy was found naked inside what resembled a bin bag.A crime scene has been established opposite Al-Faisal College on Harrow Road, with an investigation into the boy’s death under way.Detective Acting Superintendent Darren Sly said the newborn may have been in the bin for up to 36 hours.“It’s a horrific set of circumstances,” Sly said.Police say there are serious concerns for the mother’s welfare. They have urged her to attend her nearest hospital for treatment.
