SAPS, the SANDF and City agencies have all joined forces to fight crime in Cape Town.
Murder may be down n the Western Cape, but some Cape Town communities remain aming the most dangerous places in the country with 11 local police stations featuring in South Africa's top 30 for murder.
Despite the Western Cape only ranking third in SA in murders reported, the ratio of 13.9 murders per 100 000 people of the population means the province ranks second in the country for places where residents are likely to be murdered.
The latest crime statistics, released on Friday by the South African Police Service (SAPS) for the first quarter of the financial year covering 1 April to 30 June 2026, paint a horrific picture of the province.
While the official numbers show that reported cases of murder are down from 1 148 in the same period last year to 1 071, a drop of 77 cases, violent and gun-related crime rates are among the worst in SA.
