South Korea has started examining designs for a future sixth-generation fighter aircraft as it simultaneously tries to secure one of Africa’s largest proposed combat-jet orders.
The country’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration requested industry proposals for a 14-month conceptual study on 21 August, according to The Aviationist and Aviation Week.
The study will consider both tailless and conventional aircraft.
Possible capabilities include advanced stealth across multiple radar frequencies, weapons stored internally, adaptive-cycle engines and the ability to maintain supersonic speed without continuously using afterburners.
The proposed aircraft would be single-seat and use two engines.
