Grealish’s 2025-26 campaign was curtailed by a foot injury sustained in January. Despite that, The Athletic previously reported that Everton were keen on extending the Englishman’s stay.The Athletic reported on Thursday that City were interested in Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye, with David Moyes’ side keen on a deal which would see a return for Grealish.On Sunday, though, The Athletic revealed that Tottenham had reached an agreement in principle to sign Ndiaye, with City in talks to sign Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo — who had been a target for Spurs. An agreement in principle has also been reached for Richarlison to return to Everton, the club he left Tottenham for in the summer of 2022 after spending four years on Merseyside.
Grealish, meanwhile, made 22 appearances for Everton on loan last term, recording two goals and six assists before sustaining a stress fracture in his foot in January.On his return to Manchester, Grealish came on as a second-half substitute in their first two games this season — the 3-0 loss against Arsenal in the Community Shield and 2-1 Premier League win over Bournemouth — but was not included in the matchday squad for Friday’s 4-1 victory at Crystal Palace.City’s squad has already undergone significant change this summer, and in attack, winger Savio left for Tottenham Hotspur on a deal worth up to £85million, with fellow forward Omar Marmoush following him on a loan deal to the north London side. Bernardo Silva, Rodri and John Stones have also departed.Elsewhere, Everton have decided against selling midfielder Harrison Armstrong to Nottingham Forest, who had been in talks over a potential £40m deal for the 19-year-old midfielder.
