Cornerback Terrion Arnold finally signed his contract with the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, according to the team.On Aug. 14, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said the team had an agreement in place to sign Arnold, but the transaction did not happen until after Friday night’s preseason finale, for reasons that are not yet entirely clear. Both sides honored the agreement, which allows Arnold to join the team despite his NFL future being up in the air.Arnold is facing kidnapping and armed robbery charges, which carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison, stemming from a February incident in Tampa, Fla. He will be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list, which will prevent him from practicing or playing while the league investigates and considers potential punishment under the personal conduct policy. However, Arnold will be paid and can attend team meetings while on the list. He is due to appear in person in court on Oct. 5.
The Detroit Lions released Arnold, their first-round pick in 2024, less than a week after he was arrested in June. In two seasons with the Lions, he played in 24 games and recorded one interception. A shoulder injury ended his 2025 season after eight games.Arnold is unlikely to take the field anytime soon for Seattle, which has dealt with a rash of injuries to its secondary throughout training camp.The Seahawks placed safety Bud Clark on injured reserve Tuesday, and he will miss the 2026 season. Second-year nickelback Nick Emmanwori has not practiced with the team since having offseason ankle surgery.On Thursday, Macdonald declined to answer a question about how many practices Emmanwori will need to get under his belt to be ready for their season opener on Sept. 9, a Super Bowl rematch against the New England Patriots.Given Seattle’s lack of defensive back depth, the Seahawks signed former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs on Aug. 19. Diggs, who turns 28 in September, did not record an interception last season for the first time in his six-year NFL career.He played eight games with the Cowboys in 2025 before being waived. Diggs played two more for the Green Bay Packers (including playoffs) before they released him.Diggs and Arnold join a secondary headlined by cornerback Devon Witherspoon, who agreed to a four-year, $132 million extension on Aug. 15. Cornerback Josh Jobe signed a three-year deal in March as well after starting a career-high 15 games.Diggs could be the front-runner to be the Seahawks’ third cornerback and replace Riq Woolen, who signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency.
