Kolathur police have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly failing to pay rent for a car he had taken on lease and later pawning the vehicle with another person for ₹2 lakh. The accused was identified as Subash, 29, of Kolathur. The police said the complainant, Samuel, 53, of Kolathur, had rented out his car to Subash, who was introduced to him through a family friend. The two had agreed on a monthly rent of ₹30,000, and the car was handed over to Subash in September 2025.Subash paid rent only for two months. From December, he allegedly stopped paying the rent. When Samuel repeatedly asked him to return the vehicle, Subash allegedly kept delaying it and later informed him that he had pledged the car with another person. Based on Samuel’s complaint, Kolathur police registered a case and launched an investigation.The police found that Subash had pledged the car with a person in Uthukottai for ₹2 lakh and had spent the money. The police traced Subash to Coimbatore and arrested him on August 27. The car was also recovered. Published - August 30, 2026 12:45 am IST
