Three men have been arrested after allegedly attempting to obtain more than $41,000 worth of sausages by posing as representatives of a supermarket.Police arrested two Freeport men, aged 20 and 24, and a 31-year-old Caparo man in connection with the investigation.According to a Trinidad and Tobago Police Service media release, a company representative reported the incident at the Erin Police Station at around 8.30 p.m. on Thursday.The representative told police that at around 10 a.m. that day, someone claiming to be a supermarket employee placed an order for 100 cases of 400-gram chicken franks valued at $24,000 and 61 cases of jumbo chicken franks valued at $17,019.The order had a total value of $41,019.At around noon, a flatbed transport truck arrived at the company’s compound, where the goods were loaded before the driver left.Company officials later contacted the supermarket that the caller had claimed to represent to verify the purchase order.However, they were told that the supermarket had not placed the order, the release stated.A joint police operation was subsequently launched involving officers from the South Western Division’s Criminal Investigations Department, Task Force and Gang Unit.The stolen goods were recovered and returned to the company.
