A female elephant was found dead with injuries near Thannipaarai in Cumbum reserve forest area in Theni district on Saturday.Following information from a surveillance team, the Forest Ranger and other staff went to the spot. A team of doctors, including veterinary expert Muthuramalingam, performed post-mortem at the spot. The report suggested that the injuries on the body could have been the result of a fight with another elephant. The age of the dead elephant was estimated to be 36 years.Megamalai Deputy Director Vivek Kumar Yadav, forest official Poomalai and others were present while the investigations were on.
