Police said Friday that the man had hidden a 19.5-centimeter knife, including a 12-centimeter blade, inside his sock the previous day, The Straits Times reported.

The knife was wrapped in several layers of plastic bags and sealed with tape, police said.

An aviation security officer operating an X-ray machine detected a suspicious sharp object in the man's right shoe and instructed him to remove it before proceeding through the X-ray screening lane, AsiaOne reported.

The man was then escorted to a search room, where officers found a knife and sheath concealed in his shoe.

He will be charged with carrying an offensive weapon in a public place.
