Minister for Energy and Law R. Nirmalkumar inspected the premises of Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple and surrounding areas here on Saturday to review the ongoing infrastructural and safety arrangements for the upcoming consecration.He, along with the District Collector Nishant Krishna, City Police Commissioner S. Rajendran, among others, evaluated the arrangements to ensure a safe, organised, and hassle-free experience for the massive crowds expected to converge on the day.To manage security and crowd control, authorities have been directed to establish an integrated control room where the police and the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department will jointly monitor movements using walkie-talkies and CCTV networks.Dedicated entry and exit pathways for devotees and VIPs, alongside expanded parking zones and streamlined traffic regulations, are being overseen by specialised coordination committees.Special attention is also being given to heightened security around the yagasala, while spacious halls have been designated for unhindered food and prasadam distribution, said a press statement from the district administration.Basic civic amenities along the Chithirai and Avani Moola streets are being significantly reinforced.Plans included uninterrupted drinking water distribution, augmented sanitation services, and the installation of strategically placed mobile restrooms.“Structural integrity audits are under way for buildings surrounding the temple to prevent public access to unsafe rooftops, while protective barriers are being erected around electrical transformers. To keep pilgrims informed and connected, arrangements are being made for uninterrupted power supply, generators, broadband connectivity, enhanced street lighting, and large LED screens broadcasting live feeds of the ceremonies,” the statement added.While ambulances and emergency medical teams would be stationed on standby, officials have also mandated quality food provisions and amenities for all frontline government personnel deployed for the event.Addressing concerns over seasonal weather conditions, authorities are implementing extensive shading measures and expanding pipeline-fed drinking water networks to combat the heat.“Municipal road repairs and minor bridge restorations across Madurai Corporation zones are running parallel to the temple preparations,” it stated.Highlighting the inclusive nature of the event, officials reiterated that the consecration was organised as a grand public festival designed to welcome all visitors equitably.Mr. Nirmalkumar urged all departmental heads, including corporation and temple officials, engineers from the public works and electricity boards, to maintain synergy to ensure the historic consecration was performed flawlessly.
