The Media Coordinator to the Nigerian High Commission in Accra, Ghana, Destiny Omon, has resigned from his position over alleged pressure to remain silent on concerns raised by Nigerians in Ghana over a reported N2bn budget allocation and other transparency and accountability issues, Diaspora Tales has learnt.
Omon, who announced his resignation in a letter dated August 27, 2026, said he was concerned about attempts to restrict reportage on issues affecting Nigerians in Ghana, adding that his decision to quit the position was not an easy one, given the importance he attached to representing and communicating matters concerning Nigerians in the country.
In the letter sighted by Diaspora Tales on Thursday, the former media coordinator said he could no longer continue in the role under the prevailing circumstances, as such restrictions were inconsistent with his understanding of the responsibilities of a media coordinator.
He argued that credible communication should provide room for legitimate concerns affecting Nigerians to be reported accurately, responsibly and without undue interference, noting that the low and irregular payment of his stipend, including delays in receiving money owed to him, had made it difficult for him to discharge his responsibilities effectively.
