OTTAWA — Canada’s public broadcaster has reversed a long-standing policy on labelling “terrorist attacks” in its reporting after high-ranking American officials voiced outrage over its application to 9/11 amid a deep plunge in Canada-U.S. relations over the trade war with the Trump administration.
Noting “confusion” over its policy after a memo about it began circulating online this week, CBC’s senior director of journalistic standards and public trust, Basan Boshra, published a blog post Friday afternoon that defended the broadcaster’s long-standing practice of only labelling events as “terrorism” if the term is attributed to an outside source.
