The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Abia State University branch, has suspended its ongoing industrial action and directed members to resume academic duties with immediate effect from Friday, August 28, 2026.
The decision was reached at the union’s congress meeting held on Friday, where members reviewed developments surrounding the issues that led to the strike.
In a statement signed by the Branch Chairperson, Dr Chidi S. Mba, and Secretary, Dr Victor U. Obisike, the union, however, expressed concern over the continued suspension of Prof Nnamdi Nwaeze.
The congress gave the university management until Friday, September 4, 2026, to recall Nwaeze and lift his suspension.
The union warned that failure by the management to comply within the stipulated period would leave it with no option but to resume the suspended industrial action.
