Terrifying new footage shows people running for their lives moments before devastating floodwaters tear through a settlement in Nepal.The six-minute clip captures locals desperately fleeing on foot and in vehicles as the water begins surging through the Rasuwa region on Wednesday, with people sprinting along roads while others race away in cars and on motorbikes as the approaching torrent closes in.As the danger becomes clear, terrified residents can be seen scrambling to escape the path of the flood, desperately trying to reach safety before the powerful waters engulf the streets around them.Later in the footage, the same streets have been transformed into raging rivers as powerful floodwaters churn through the settlement, dragging debris with them and sending huge splashes of water into the air.Residents who managed to escape the torrent can be seen sheltering inside buildings and watching from doorways as the muddy water races past their homes, leaving roads that just moments earlier had been filled with fleeing locals completely overwhelmed.In the aftermath, one person was seen waving a flag from a rooftop in an apparent rescue signal. The building was one of the few left standing amid the devastation.Nepal is facing what officials described as a scene of 'devastation beyond imagination' after a glacier collapse unleashed a 'tsunami from the sky', sending torrents of water crashing through villages and tourist hotspots.The deadly deluge, reported to have surged as high as 650ft, has left 1,924 people missing and claimed at least 579 lives in one of the country's worst natural disasters in recent memory.
