The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has declared a force majeure on the 132kV Birnin Kebbi–Niamey transmission line after three transmission towers collapsed during heavy rain and a windstorm in Kebbi State.
TCN disclosed this in a statement issued by its management on Friday, saying the incident disrupted bulk power transmission to Niamey, Niger Republic, through the affected line.
According to the company, the transmission line tripped at 5:38 pm on August 26, 2026, prompting operators to attempt a trial reclosure about 25 minutes later.
“On 26th August 2026 at 17:38hrs, the 132kV Birnin Kebbi–Niamey line tripped. A trial reclosure was carried out at 18:03hrs, but the line tripped instantly,” TCN said.
