Oliver Glasner has said Liam Delap is the perfect signing for Nottingham Forest following his club-record arrival from Chelsea. The 23-year-old has moved to the City Ground in deal worth an initial £45million to Chelsea, with another £5m in potential add-ons.Glasner, who turned 52 on Friday, believes it is the ideal move for all parties.“I am convinced that he is the perfect player for us,” said Glasner in his press conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to Liverpool.“We were in talks for many days and we convinced him that Nottingham Forest was the right club for his career. Before he went to Chelsea, I think everyone in the Premier League wanted Liam, after his amazing season with Ipswich.“When we heard that it was possible, and we were looking for a striker, of course, with physicality and pace, who runs in behind, we wanted to do it.”Delap scored 12 Premier League goals for Ipswich Town in 2024-2025, prompting Chelsea to pay £30m to activate his release clause last summer. The striker had a frustrating time in London, scoring one Premier League goal in 12 starts and 16 substitute appearances.“He was looking for a club where he has a better chance of getting minutes; where he can reignite his career,” Glasner said.“The way we play, he is a player who needs a little space. His strengths are his power and his finishing.“We are getting a player who is still young, who has proven he can score goals in the Premier League. His profile and personality convinced us when we talked. He is hungry, he wants to improve.”Forest’s next priority is to add a wing-back, and have placed a £22million bid for Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz.“A deal is quite close to being done,” said Glasner of incomings. “There are three more days to get the deals over the line. I cannot comment on any names.”Morgan Gibbs-White and Ryan Yates are both fit to travel to Anfield, but Forest will be without Ibrahim Sangare who picked up a minor calf injury in training on Wednesday.
